Week 2 Science Methods Blog Post

Characteristics of Living Things Poster Bean Dissection 1.) What did you learn this week?                          This week we dived a lot more into the characteristics of living things. We compared the differences between living and non living things. We worked with our table mates to create a poster showing the definitions, and created small pictures to help demonstrate what each characteristic meant. I found this part to be quite fun since its very artsy and has a creative aspect to it. We then put 15-20 seeds into a plastic cup with 7 cotton balls and some water. They went into a cube with light where well get to see what happens next class time. I really liked getting to do this because it started to feel more like a science class with the little activities and when we dissected the seeds.  2.) Week 1 Science Methods Blog Post

(1.)   What did you learn this week?   This week, I learned about NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and a little on how to use them. I learned the codes used are ways to understand each standard based on the standard's grade level. We also got to build our dream classrooms with our table partner. I found this to be a really exciting activity!  (2.)  Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?  I found the need for the information to be clear, but found the NGSS site to be more on the confusing side. There are so many codes, and little things to remember that I think that is the only parts which confused me. (3.)   How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?   I think that knowing how to go about topics for teaching and implementing the tools can be a fun way to teach in my future classroom.
