  Atoms   M&M Experiment What did you learn this week? This week we took the time to look a lot more into density and why things may be denser than others along with what things impact that and cause it. We discussed atoms and what they may do to impact what we see. We then did experiments with m&ms so see a few different things. 2.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew? I remember looking and talking about how atoms work in middle school the most. We did little activities and watched videos on it but never one with candy in water like we did today. I did however remember talking about it within my science classes. 3.) How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? I think using m&ms in school as an experiment is a great way to have the students involved and have fun. Lab Supplies Lab Data 1.) What did you learn this week? This week we took the time to dive into more experiments that pushed us to look at conductivity, mass/ volume and measure on our findings. We asked the question "How can we support elementary students in learning about matter and its interactions?" All the little parts to our experiments directly impacted the question being asked and made us think as future teachers how we would answer it, along with our students. Along with this, we also talked on observations and made more notes on that as well. 2.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew? I remember doing some of these things in elementary. I think mostly in 4th grade since when we had our assessment, we would go around the room and do similar tasks like these to see how we understood it.   M&M Experiment 1.) What did you learn this week? This week we dived back into reviewing the NGSS, and focused a lot on observation. We did some observation labs and recorded our own thoughts down. It really made you watch and was nice to relearn and focus on a topic that is so important in science and for the classroom. We discussed matter and the types of things taht have matter aswell. Overall looking at working with the labs was as fun way to start the chemisty unit and has made it already exciting. 2.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already know? I have done activities in the past where you put the certain candies in the water and watch what happens. But it was neat to have to think back to when I was younger and try and process what my mind would have thought then and think thats what students are thinking.   Bean Game 1.) What did you learn this week? I leaned a lot more about mutations and the harm that surrounds them along with the good parts  Some mutations talked about are insertion, deletion, and substitution. . We played a bean game with our table groups and got to learn more about predators and prey. Overall a fun day in class. 2.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew? I don't remember a whole lot about the mutation subjects like the ones learned from class today. Its been a while so relearning some of the subjects and having activities to go along was a nice refresher for things for the future. 3.)  How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? Plant Update Candy DNA Model Baby Lab 1.) What did you learn this week? This week we spent some time diving more into genetics and what we are made of. We talked about how we get certain traits, and the genes that we have now. We used candy to do see it more interactively. We looked at our plants, and at the end of class we took time to create a child with a flip of a coin. Deciding what traits the baby will have with dominant and recessive genes. 2.) Are you able to relate what you know to what you already knew? I remember doing activities like the ones done in class that help you see how things are decided by building your own. Like when we did the baby activity today. I can relate back to it because its like it opened a memory I haven't seen or thought about in a long time.    Butterflies Pollination Turtle T-Chart 1.) What did you learn this week? This week we looked at the butterflies which have now grown, we spent some time with our plants making sure that they still get the pollination step. We took dried bees and rubbed them on the petals so that the plants can become pollinated. I thought this was interesting since I thought the bees had to be alive to do so. But as long as the flowers become pollinated then thats all that matters. We then did an activity with sea turtles. We looked at their life expectancy's and played a game to try and stay alive. Overall I leanred more about the pollination steps and turtles. 2.) How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?   Plant Progress 5E Inquiry Lesson Plan Rubric Life Cycle Jamboard Activity 1.) What did you learn this week? I learned a lot more about the types of life cycles, and the food chains that correspond with them. We talked and looked over our plant progress from the past week, and talked as a class about the lesson plan rubric and how to use them in a classroom. We also moved the chrysalises to the butterfly sanctuary since they will be ready very soon. 2.) Are you able to relate what you know to what you already knew? I knew some info from my past school years about the life cycle, and food chain but its been so long. So refreshing the information was nice to get an idea on how to better teach it for my future students. Plant Progress 5E Modeling Presentation 1.) What did you learn this week? I learned more about the 5E's of modeling. Engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. All things I have heard about in a sentence, but I haven't heard them in a long time. It was nice to learn about the different ways students use them in class and the ways that teachers can implement them in lessons as well. We also got to see our plants grow more, which was pretty neat. 2.)  Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew? I think knowing the previous terms and learning how they work together and seeing how important they are really set a stage for a leaning environment. These things don't just fit into one subject but rather multiple. Frog Life Cycle Seed Sprouts in Cup More Planting 1.)  Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew? I would say yes, I could relate. In school its pretty impossible to not talk about the life cycle so relearning and thinking about the ideas and concept wasn't anything new. It was pretty fun to use the play-doh since its something that I have used in a science class before. (In 4th grade we made the digestive system with play-doh) So for me it was a really fascinating to relook at the idea and what everyone else in my class made as well!!  2.) I'm not sure what I would find too confusing, I think at first when we put seeds with cotton balls, and water that was confusing to grasp how that would evolve to anything but I would say I can see things pretty clear. Characteristics of Living Things Poster Bean Dissection 1.) What did you learn this week?                          This week we dived a lot more into the characteristics of living things. We compared the differences between living and non living things. We worked with our table mates to create a poster showing the definitions, and created small pictures to help demonstrate what each characteristic meant. I found this part to be quite fun since its very artsy and has a creative aspect to it. We then put 15-20 seeds into a plastic cup with 7 cotton balls and some water. They went into a cube with light where well get to see what happens next class time. I really liked getting to do this because it started to feel more like a science class with the little activities and when we dissected the seeds.  2.) (1.)   What did you learn this week?   This week, I learned about NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and a little on how to use them. I learned the codes used are ways to understand each standard based on the standard's grade level. We also got to build our dream classrooms with our table partner. I found this to be a really exciting activity!  (2.)  Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?  I found the need for the information to be clear, but found the NGSS site to be more on the confusing side. There are so many codes, and little things to remember that I think that is the only parts which confused me.
