Week 3 Science Methods Blog Post

Frog Life Cycle

Seed Sprouts in Cup

1.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?

I would say yes, I could relate. In school its pretty impossible to not talk about the life cycle so relearning and thinking about the ideas and concept wasn't anything new. It was pretty fun to use the play-doh since its something that I have used in a science class before. (In 4th grade we made the digestive system with play-doh) So for me it was a really fascinating to relook at the idea and what everyone else in my class made as well!!

2.) Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?

I'm not sure what I would find too confusing, I think at first when we put seeds with cotton balls, and water that was confusing to grasp how that would evolve to anything but I would say I can see things pretty clear. Understanding the characteristics of living things, and non living. While also going over all the parts of the life cycle. I think its been pretty understandable so far.

3.) How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I know I can apply all of the creative parts to my future classroom. All the fun ways to showcase experiments and new ways of thinking are all great things I want to have my students experience. I want to take simple lessons and spin them to be fun, exciting, and enjoyable. I  think applying the new ways we are learning to teach subjects is the start to brainstorming ideas for our own classrooms, and it makes me even more excited to think about and teach in my own classroom.

  1. Hi Alyce!
I really enjoyed reading your blog post for this week's assignment! I would have to agree with what you said about putting the cotton balls into the cup when trying to grow our plants. I could not grasp it at first, but now I am understanding it more. Overall, great work!

  2. Hi Alyce! I appreciate how you took the time to caption your photos, that's a great idea! Also, I totally agree and also wrote about how I want to use these activities in my future classroom. I think there were a lot of great ideas this week about how to teach science in ways that are both engaging and informative.
