Week 4 Science Methods Blog Post

Plant Progress

5E Modeling Presentation

1.) What did you learn this week?

I learned more about the 5E's of modeling. Engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. All things I have heard about in a sentence, but I haven't heard them in a long time. It was nice to learn about the different ways students use them in class and the ways that teachers can implement them in lessons as well. We also got to see our plants grow more, which was pretty neat.

2.) Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?

I think knowing the previous terms and learning how they work together and seeing how important they are really set a stage for a leaning environment. These things don't just fit into one subject but rather multiple. I can see myself trying even harder to use all of them more often in my classroom, with also gaining a better understanding for them.

3.) How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I think keeping in mind all of these 5 things, and using them in lesson plans and actively involving them is a great way to use them. I want to make sure that I am reaching these goals for my students, and providing goals for them, to help them reach new learnings.

  1. Hi Alyce, good post. I also was able to relate what we have learned to what I already know. I agree with knowing about all of the five terms, but it is key to know and understand how these all work together and are to work together when planning a lesson. I would like to implement this model into my future planning.

  2. Hi Alyce! I agree, just knowing the terms isn't as helpful as visualizing how they can be fully incorporated into a specific lesson. I feel that 5E works well with the NGSS.
