1.) What did you learn this week?
This week we spent some time diving more into genetics and what we are made of. We talked about how we get certain traits, and the genes that we have now. We used candy to do see it more interactively. We looked at our plants, and at the end of class we took time to create a child with a flip of a coin. Deciding what traits the baby will have with dominant and recessive genes.
2.) Are you able to relate what you know to what you already knew?
I remember doing activities like the ones done in class that help you see how things are decided by building your own. Like when we did the baby activity today. I can relate back to it because its like it opened a memory I haven't seen or thought about in a long time. I remember how to know when certain traits take over, so it was a nice refresher.
3.) How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
I think taking the time to create activities that the students can see and understand are excellent ways for demonstrating and providing new learning. I will definetly take the labs done today and use them for my own classroom and students because I think they bring a new level of creativity to wanting to learn.
Hi Alyce! I totally agree- what I've been taking from the last few weeks of lab has been a lot of ideas for future lessons! I appreciate that we're getting to think about potential lessons now, since we'll probably have to provide more scaffolding and differentiation to our students in the future.
